Life Size Herd of Cows!

In fitting fashion for the South Sudanese, a herd of cows will be present at the Gala! These cows will be sculpted, sanded, sealed , painted by local artists and then weatherproofed.

As you can see in the pictures below, our sizable crew constructed them out of home insulation, molded them with hot wire, sanded them (a lot!), and then covered them with a final hard coat. Stay tuned to see the cows take shape! The photos were taken by Ellen Morgan, a photographer whose photos of cow camps and her travels in South Sudan will be featured at the gala.

Our Cow team: Jackie Lenth, Nancy Fleming, Karin Levy, Penny Perez, Patricia Deck, Gina Halstead, Fan Watkinson, Sue Klem, Giny Welles, Sarah Bishop, Heidi Derbyshire, Susan Winship, Roberta Boylen, Amy Goodwin

Current Cow Stage: At the artists' Studios getting painted.

The first cow below is named Mootisse, after the artist Henri Matisse. Laurel was inspired by Matisse's work " Les Oiseaux.". This famous painting  inspired Laurel in that it reminded her of peace doves carrying the olive branch. This symbolism for peace depicts her wish for peace in South Sudan.
