Sudanese Student Alliance Program

This is a program of the Sudanese Education Fund. The purpose of the program is to encourage an “alliance” between American youth and the Sudanese community in the Boston area.

The Alliance will offer educational workshops about Sudan for American students and also an “ambassador” from Sudan to all the schools who participate in the program. The ambassadors will be available to do presentations in schools to both small groups and large groups.

It is the goal of the program for students to learn from the Sudanese about their history, their culture, and their adjustment to life in America.

The students will teach the Sudanese about American culture by offering to host certain holiday events such as a Halloween party, Thanksgiving feast, Christmas party, Easter egg hunt, and participation in a July 4 th parade. These events will be a platform where the American students can teach the Sudanese about our culture and some of its’ holidays.

The students and the Sudanese will work together to raise funds for the South Sudanese Community Center. They will do this by hosting a Battle of the Bands, carwashes, and a spring triathlon. A portion of the funds raised will be allocated to the group to decide how to use it to benefit the South Sudanese Community.

The Sudanese “program managers” of the Sudanese Student Alliance will also be engaging the Sudanese community to assist in these fund raisers and other fund raisers focusing on and engaging the Sudanese community in efforts to raise funds for the Center.

It is hoped that the relationship between the two groups: the students and the Sudanese will foster an understanding of each of their cultures and life experiences.
