Saturday Bridges is complemented by enrichment activities held throughout the year at SSEF’s Community Center in Malden, a town accessible by a majority of the community. The Community Center provides drop-in ad hoc use by the South Sudanese as well as our staff and volunteers. In addition we host many planned activities throughout the year, including ESOL and civics classes with on-site child care, peace-building discussions, computer support, resume workshops, board meetings, independence and voting day events, women’s savings groups, tutoring, dominoes tournaments and seminars on topics of expressed interest, such as recognizing signs of depression in children and accessing appropriate services, or creating a household budget. The Center also displays a rare collection of refugees’ paintings and provides free Internet access. The Center gives this dynamic and diverse community of new Americans the opportunity to work together toward shared goals and to better understand one another.
